1984 1/2 Mustang GT350 20th Anniversary Edition

Picture of my Mustang GT350

This photo was taken with a Kodak Digital Science DC50 Camera

#4,948 of 5,261 total units produced (2,604 units were 5.0L, 5-Speed, Hatchbacks like mine)

This car needs a lot of work in every way. Someday, I'll have the time to do it...sounds like a good father/son project!

October 11, 1998 ... I have purchased a used set of JBA 1 5/8" Firecone Shortie Headers that have been Hot Jet Coated (very nice). I purchased these from the Auction Block section of The Corral Net website. I also expect to receive my new Bassani X-Pipe with Cats this coming week (purchased from Houston Performance, the owner, Steve, is a great person and is very patient in answering any questions you may have regarding his products and your needs!). This will get my car almost back to emmisions legal trim (except for my Edelbrock Performer and 750 Holley). You never know when state legislature will drop the hammer...

I BOUGHT THE CAR IN MAY OF 1984 W/THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT:

 *
5.0L H.O. V8 w/4V 600CFM Factory Holley Carb
(175HP @ 4200RPM, 245 FT/LB Torque @ 2400 RPM)
 *
Borg Warner T-5 5-Speed Manual Transmission
(uh, mine has been through three rebuilds) ;)
 *
3.08:1 Traction-Lok Rear Axle
 *
AM/FM Stereo Radio
 *
Air Conditioning (Factory)
 *
Cruise Control (Dealer installed/stalk-mounted)
 *
Three-Spoke Leather Steering Wheel
 *
Flip-Up Sunroof
 *
TRX Suspension Upgrade
(UPGRADE?! Have you priced these metric tires lately?!)

ALL 20th ANNIVERSARY GT350 MUSTANGS EQUIPPED AS FOLLOWS:

(to the best of my knowledge)
 *
Monotone White Exterior
 *
SVO Style Thin Side Body Moldings w/thin red body stripe
 *
GT-350 Rocker Panel Stripes
("Wow, you have a 350 in that?!" How many times...)
 *
Running Horse Fender Badges in place of 5.0L Badges
 *
Full Throttle Alternator/AC Compressor Cutout Switch
 *
Canyon Red Interior w/Articulated Bucket Seats & Halo Headrests
 *
Handling Suspension w/the new Quad Shock rear suspension
(goodbye factory slapper bars, although they were probably better!)
 *
20th Anniversary Limited Edition Dash Medallion uninstalled
(dealer/buyer installed, some of these never made it past the dealer's "collector" employees!)
 *
Personalized Customer Plaque w/Production Number
(Ford sent order requests for these directly to the new owners, some owners never returned these applications to get theirs)

I do have both plaques and still have all original equipment that I've removed from this car.

Having owned a 1969 Olds Cutlass with a 455CID/4 Barrel Engine built to W30 specs, it didn't take me long to get "bored" with the GT's performance. Immediately after rolling 50,000 miles on the Odometer (and the tranny being rebuilt three times), I made the following mods to this car:

 * Competition Cams Magnum .480"/.480" lift, 282/282 Duration (obsolete)
 * Edelbrock Performer 289 Dual Plane Intake Manifold
 * Holley #0-3310-2, Model 4160, 750 cfm, vacuum secondary, 4V Carb minor carb mods: low tension secondary spring, #72 jets primary/#72 jets secondary
 * Cyclone 1 1/2" unequal length tube "3/4" headers
 * Dynomax Super Turbo 2.5" cat-backs (stainless-steel tail pipes/87-93 LX)
 * Replaced stock Eaton posi-unit with an Auburn cone-type unit
 * 4.10:1 Axle Ratio in my poor tired 7.5" ring gear rear end

BEST TIMES SECONDS
1/4 MILE - STOCK 15.8
1/4 MILE - MODIFIED   13.9*
1/8 MILE - MODIFIED     9.2*
*These aren't even competitive with 87-93 Mustangs w/minor mods!
All results were using the traction-unfriendly TRX tires!

UPDATED Mods (posted March 9, 2003)

During the course of the past couple of years, the following mods have been made (no track testing as of yet):

JBA 1 5/8" Unequal-Length Shortie Headers (jet-hot coated)
Bassani 2 1/2" Off-Road X-Pipe (full stainless-steel)
Double-hump crossmember and necessary hanger hardware (87 LX configuration was used, included tranny mount hanger plate and rear tailpipe hangers, they bolted right into my chassis, hole for left driver's side passenger hanger is already there...previously I had cobbled a mounting for the cat-backs on the driver's side)

In hand:
GT40P Explorer Heads, will install unported Spring, 2003...porting will be later
Edelbrock (NOT Eldinbrock, NOT Eldebrock, please get their name right folks!!) Torker intake (original/twisted carb mount)
